After hundreds of thousands of miles of travel over the last 29 years or so using cheap commercial nylon and army surplus gear, I finally broke down and ordered up some stout duffle bags, a good soft briefcase, and a good back pack.  If I ever have occasion to buy a gift for a younger person I think I will set them up with a quality piece of luggage.
