Dear ALL,

Our company is working on r stamp vessel,while inspecting the vessel i got a pit with 25 mm deep so we followed nbic according it we went with weld built up after weld built up we flush (grounded)welded the pit now inspector is sayin to take radiography on it..Is it possible to take radiography test on flush welded part ,is ther any procedure or code which supports this situation..

Material spec:
Shell SA 515 Gr 70
shell thk:40mm
pit is on shell 900mmx400mm

I don't see any problem in taking a radiography on the welded portion of plate that was grounded afterwards to make it flush with the rest of the plate surface.
Does anyone of the frequentors of this Forum have a different opinion?

It will shoot just fine being ground flush.  Just makes it a bit trickier on the interpreter to know where the boarders of the weld are, but that's  what measuring tools are for.  There are plenty of radiographed welds out there in the world the require a flush contour for the next assembly.  Depending on the fabrication standard you are working to, if you have any suck back in the root to where the weld thickness is now thinner than the base material thickness, you may fail your RT inspection.
