Hi all...

No sure if this is the best place for this, if not, mods please move it.

I have a request for help to you experienced welders out there.

After many years employment at the same company, it has closed down
and left many employees empty handed.

I am considering purchasing a welder, plasma cutter, cut off saw and
a few other metal working tools.

I would like to start building stuff and selling it.

The reason for this post is that, I am asking for your experienced input
on what types of items I could easily build and market?

I have limited welding experience but really am a “jack-of-all-trades”
of sorts.

I did take welding in High School (like centuries ago) but that was just
stick welding and I am not sure if the best welder to start off with would
be stick or MIG.

I have a home wood shop now with all the common tools. Drill Press,
Lathe, Jointer, Planner, Band Saw and, well... you get the picture.

Things like maybe, Utility trailers, Deer Stands and/or maybe whatever
else I get some suggestions for.

Thank you for your time and input, and have a great day,
John

Hey John,
Sorry to hear about company closing.

I can't give you any advice on what product you can start with, but I can point you in the right direction.  There has been lots of discussion in the past about starting up on your own.
Try these to start

Good Afternoon Everyone

I have a simple question I was audited last week AS9100 my auditor told us that an non certified welder can work on a military job as long as my certified welders (AWS 17.1) signs off. Is that true?

I find that highly irregular.  I am not familiar with D17.1, but, that does not seem like good advice from an auditor.  I would be really careful about accepting it and do my own homework before putting it into practice.

Have a Great Day,  Brent

BTW, you really should start your own thread with a question like that.  It isn't really related to the OP.

I think the auditor was implying that on certan parts of projects that a certified welder supervising the work was enough. I filled that role for many years. Kind of like holding the liscense for a company. To the OP you need to be careful in what you produce for liability purposes. Building to spec and approval limits your liability because you only made what you were asked to to THEIR accepted standard. If you make anything to market you are completely liable for anything that happens with Your product.
