Hello,

My name is Matthew Cimas and I am a Cut & Etch Quality auditor at Hatch Stamping in Howell Michigan. We are starting a new project involving Stainless with stainless 401 wire; for the life or death of me I cannot etch these cross sections. I have tried ammonium persulfate, sodium hydroxide, 10 nitric acid reagent I have even soaked these pieces in 70/30 nitric acid over the weekend and they will not etch. Can anyone suggest a solution or reagent that will succeed in this regard? I heard that Sulfamic acid may work.

Try Marbles Etchant.  There nare also etchants listed in the back  D 1.6.  Please be very very careful with the hydrofluoric acid.  It has no human uses, and can kill you very painfully.
