American Welding Society Forum
I apreciate your suggestion regarding the pictures attached; we will try to repair the rails with a welding procedure according to AWS D15.2. The rails is CR 135 (ASTM A 579). I'll try to use E 307-16.
Could you please give me suggestion to avoid the wear in the future. I'm looking the AREMA Manual to check design considerations.
The rails are used in our overhead traveling crane (with 60 tons capacity).
Quibo how long has these rails been in use. Trying to repair something like this could get someone hurt.
As your damage seems to be on the ends of adjoining rails, would it be a possibility to cold cut the damaged areas away and remake the joint with a new re-drilled fishplate? I'm sure you must have a few inches of spare rail material to allow this?
