Up Topic Welding Industry / Inspection & Qualification / VT program for B31.1
- By pipes (**) Date 01-21-2014 18:02
Hello all, I need some help. I am working with a company to help them establish a VT program in compliance with Section 136 of ASME B31.1. I understand what needs to be done and how to get each employee "qualified" to perform VT but what I do not know for sure is how all of this VT is recorded. 136.4.2 states that welds need to be examined "as needed". I guess I'm not sure what that means. Is that up to the customer to determine a percentage of welds that get examined? Is every weld examined? Also, how is all of this recorded? Is each weld that gets examined recorded by the examiner? This would require marking or numbering each examined weld right?

Sorry to be so ignorant about all of this but I have never run into this. I just wish B31.1 was more specific about the requirements of the program. Does anybody have or have you seen a VT program for B31.1 in place? Thank you so much! -JJ
