Im am wondering if I can get some guidence here with MIL-STD-1595. Im doing a qualification for HR-120 material, .250" thick, v groove weld. I can't find in the spec where it give you a tolernace for max weld reforcement and max root gap. Would anyone know what page and paragraph this is located?

Thanks again,

Before I go into my dusty archieves do see if there is an answer to your quesitons.

Let me ask you if you are sure 1595 is really the specification that is in authority through your contract or repair requirements?

This specification was superseeded by AWS D17.1 a number of years ago.

A double check might save you problems down the line;   As sometimes people have a tendency to cut and paste requirements to lower tiers from older contracts/bids etc. that will be out of date.

As I keep digging here.....our customer actually calls out AMS-STD-1595. The customer has there own welding procedure and it calls out MIL-STD-1595 which is not superceded by AMS-STD-1595 as it states on there welding procedure. I know that Annex A calls this out on D17.1....im assuming its the same as 1595....or so I hope.

It is strange they based their WPS / PQRs on MIL-STD-1595. 1595 only addresses welder qualification. It does not address procedure qualification other than to say the welder has to follow a WPS when testing.

Both 2219 and 1595 were cancelled.   Both superseeded by 1595

Again... Sometimes contract writers just cut and copy from old doccuments.

That specification is 10 years gone at least.

Is it safe to say to use D17.1 for my questions then?

Be the safest RFI your Prime or at least a phone call.

I agree, a phone call is all that's needed.

You're probably fabricating an old part (spares order?) using legacy blueprints.

Check the date on the print and see what year it was issued. Then if I wasn't sure I would make a call and let them make the call and get them to approve it in writing.
