Trying to weld case hardened A512 to a mild steel.  Pin hole porosity is sporadically popping up.
- Pipe section = 3/8" wall
- Plate = 3/8" thick
- ER70S-6   .045"
- increased pre and post flow
- added different increments of pre heat
- washed pieces of pipe

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

We did not wash the parts until we noticed the pin holes popping up sporadically.
Part were washed with soap and water then dried.  Did not notice a difference.

Logic can be used to determine the cause. Porosity is the inability of gas to escape prior to solidification. There are essentially two gases that influence the behavior, nitrogen and hydrogen. Nitrogen is indicative of a lack of shielding. Hydrogen is indicative of the presence of moisture, not counting that which is present in the material. If you think your gas shielding is adequate then check the gas itself. There are other gases and other causes but these predominate.
