When you go to inspect a job for lets say D1.2 where you know cracking may be an issue... Do you use a loop or magnification on the entire job?

Also, have any of you every gone to do an inspection, passed a part, then recieved a call that it was rejected, leter to find out they had added something?

I keep a 10 power and an inexpensive optical comparitor in my bag of inspection tools.

If somebody is over my shoulder or disputing a call, or it's just too close for a tape measure, I like to have it on hand.

Magnification is almost never required for VT... But using it does not change the tollerance eh?

The use of magnification is always fair game under the D1.X structural welding codes. That isn't the case with other welding standards such as NAVSEA TP278.

I carry a couple of lenses (2X, 5X, and 10X) in my tool kit. I use them to confirm my observations. One of the lenses has a reticle that can reconcile down to 0.002 inch.
