I would like to know if anyone can point me to where in ASME Div 1 I can read up on the code boundary of a vessel.
After I read into it I’m sure I will have questions.

Mikeqc1,

When you write ASME Div 1, which section are you referring to ? Is it Section III, Division 1 - Article NC-1000, NC 1132.2, pages 1 thru 5, or Section VIII - Division 1?

The first connection is usually the boundary for all ASME codes.

The first welded connection off the boiler, be it welded, threaded, or flanged. Likewise with unfired pressure vessels, the first connection of the vessels, be it welded, threaded, or flanged. The same holds true for connecting piping, it begins with the first connection off the vessel. This information is typically listed in the "Scope" of the construction code, i.e., Section I, Section VIII, B31.1, etc., you are working with. A schematic is typically included delineating the boundary.

Best regards - Al

'The first welded connection off the boiler, be it welded, threaded, or flanged.'? threaded or flanged is not welded? c'mon Al

Perhaps the confusion was my poor choice of words. Strike the word "welded" in the first half of the sentence. My bad.
