Hello There!

We need to machine a tension specimen in accordance with the figure 4.14 (pg. 201) and we have a question: The Length of reduced section (A) need to have 60mm mín., but the the face of my weld has 20mm, if I plus 12mm, in accordance with figure, I have 32mm, less than the mín.
What I need to do? Can I plus 28mm in the length of reduced section?

Sincerely,

60 mm is the minimum length regardless of the weld face width (a function of the Base metal thickness and groove detail). If the base metal is relatively thick, the length of the reduced section would be governed by the width of the weld face. For thinner base metal, the length of the reduced section is governed by the minimum dimension of 60 mm.
