where can one find graphs/calculations/data of Energy & wavelength related to material mass(weight), material wavelength absorption to cut/burn/melt various metals,plastics etc. ?

This is a very complicated subject.  Are you intending to cut a new material with a process that has not yet been established?  Some of the LASER suppliers might be able to help you out.

Otherwise, if you have access to inter-library loans there might still be a book in the Library of Congress with some of the data you are looking for.  I found a copy of a text that was published by the Air Force Research Lab.  That is all I have to say about it - it was about 10 years ago though, so the title remains a bit fuzzy today.

There is no simple answer.  The book was about 450 pages long.   The bottom line is that for some metals, the vapor boiling out of the weld or cut will reflect energy back from the beam, thus reducing efficiency.

Cross jet flows will remove the vapor cloud and possibly improve the beam efficiency, but this method probably works better for cutting than welding processes since most laser welds must be protected from the atmosphere.

What is the practical take-away?  Be sure that your LASER has sufficient power to support the material(s) and thicknesses you intend to work with.

Some LASER suppliers will process sample welds in their lab if you are seriously in the market for new equipment.

It would baffle me if that would not keep the OP reading for a while.

As an aside.
The world wide web and along with it the high amount of E-Publications is certainly beneficial.
I myself need to admit however to belong to the most likely disappearing group of fellows which needs the haptic experience of thumbing through a "real" book. Don't know how many electronic files, papers and publications I have found over the years on the web, quickly scanning them for storing them (for the best) on my hard drive. Sure this is the same with you, certainly even outperformed by yourself.

Nonetheless at the end of the day I could find myself incapable of relocating the right one in case of really needing it.
I found myself returning thus to order and pay for printed publications (or at least print the papers out) which - as a very welcome side effect - proved preserving my already blood-shot and - unfortunately - flagging eyes.

It sure can be problematic if one doesn't keep the filing system they choose in order and without deviation... I personally use separate external hard drives to store the E-PUB's .pdf's and any other digital format so that they don't get mixed up with what I usually have in either one of my desktops or my laptops as well...

Any music or movies are stored separated also in a different hard drive that can hold greater capacity (4Tb) with each file anywhere format least 1 Gb to the largest one so far being 44Gb... Yes indeed!  One must be very vigilant in assuring that their filing system is in order and working as efficient as can be... It's definitely something not to become complacent with as I have experienced when I first started organizing my digital content... Those days were very confusing and complicated as opposed to the K.I.S.S method I use currently...:grin:

Having said that, I still keep my printed books at the ready for quick and easy access when I'm @ home... So much to learn and so little time left to take it all in.:roll:
