hello everyone im back for more questions!! i think it's 21 question time!! ha ha!! Anyway we have to qualify for a indirect butt joint with A706 grade 60! my question is 'does the splice plate have to match the grade of the bars? Or can we use say A572 grade 50 or does have to grade 65? thanks so much for the help!! Also i do have the D1.4 Structural Welding Code--Reinforcing Steel and i could not find any mention of this?

Ultimately, the strength of the splice material and the filler metal has to be as strong as the rebar. Weaker splice material, longer welds and thicker/wider the material. Weaker filler metal, longer welds.
