Issue new WPS from PQR

Dear All,

We have 2 WPS need to be qualified in conformity with AWS : welding SS540 ( JIS standard, CS , same group with SS400) to SS304 (spec SA-240, stainless steel ) ; welding SS540 to SS321 ( spec SA-240). SS321 is same group B with SS304 (AWS D1.6) . So can we consider to qualify only one WPS and from this PQR, can we issue that WPS ?

And we had qualified WPS with PQR already ( SS400 to SS304 ). From this PQR, can we issue two above WPSs ? Tensile strength of SS540 is nearly double of SS400.

What combinations are going to be welded for production?

Production base material is ss540 with ss304; ss540 with ss321

I don't have a copy of AWS D1.6 with me, however, since the SS540 is not a listed base metal, they must be qualified by testing. In other words, only the austenitic stainless steels (300 series) are prequalified. Any nonprequalified base metal requires qualification by testing if they are welded to themselves or to a prequalified base metal.
