Certifications from American Welding Society (AWS), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), or MIL are required. Candidates will be required to acquire Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) and Certified Welding Educator (CWE) certifications from AWS if not currently held. Preference will be given to candidates with teaching experience at the post-secondary level. Qualified applicants must successfully complete welding performance tests in the shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW), and flux-cored arc welding (FCAW) processes. Strong communication, interpersonal and customer service skills are essential. Responsibilities include maintaining the welding technology laboratories, teaching, and providing lab assistance in courses within the welding technology program. Specific areas of teaching assignments may include, but are not limited to, teaching theory and application of: SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, oxyacetylene cutting (OAC), plasma-arc cutting (PAC), air carbon arc cutting (CAC-A); blueprint and weld symbols reading; welding safety; metallurgy; and weld quality. Welding process applications include carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum on plate, sheet metal, and tube/pipe in all positions. Instructional duties include evaluating students, developing and planning courses, delivering lectures, and leading labs. Under the supervision of the Welding Technology Program Coordinator, this position manages special projects; inventories and maintains consumable supplies; provides assistance and support to faculty; directs daily lab operations to support academic programs; and ensures lab equipment is in safe and proper working condition. In addition to teaching, responsibilities also include purchasing; scheduling of lab operations and student activities; and installation, operation, maintenance and repair of general and complex lab equipment Successful candidate must be self-motivated, team-oriented, and possess the ability to work with minimal supervision. Candidate must be able to function in an environment characterized by continual changes in information technology. Candidate must remain current in the welding discipline and show evidence of ongoing professional development. Teaching assignments may include day, evening, weekend, and off-site curriculum and continuing education courses. Must have the ability to lift 100 pounds, carry 50 pounds, stoop, kneel, crawl, and continuously walk and stand. Copies of transcripts (unofficial copies acceptable) must be submitted.
