I'm not sure why this is confusing me, but it is.    D1.1 2010

3.7.3.2 Single-Pass Fillet Welds. Single-pass fillet
welds up to the following sizes may be made using any of
the filler metals for Group II base metals listed in Table 3.1:
SMAW 1/4 in [6 mm]
SAW 5/16 in [8 mm]
GMAW/FCAW 5/16 in [8 mm]

But Table 3.7  has something different for Maximum fillet size for GMAW.
* 3/8"    Flat and horizontal
* 1/2"    Vertical
* 5/16"  Overhead

I did a quick search but did not see a quick answer.

Am I missing something simple here?

Edit:
I'm not a big fan of GMAW spray fillets larger than 5/16, as they invite overlap on the bottom leg in horizontal fillets... But I'm unclear as to the restrictions in clause 3

Lawrence,

3.7.3 are weathering steel requirements, as is 3.7.3.1 and 3.7.3.2.

I agree with Scott on this 3.7.3 are for weathering steel requirements the way I read Table 3.7 is Maximum Single Pass Fillet Weld Size with note c
Flat 1/2
Horizontal 3/8
Vertical 1/2
Overhead 5/16
It says at the top GMAW/FCAW with a note g.

That's okay Lawrence, we've all been asleep at the wheel on occasion.  Easy to take some of those out of context.

Oddly enough, that’s how one of my pet hamsters died.  He fell asleep at the wheel.   I had four of them.  When I told my dad that I wanted another one just like it, he reached into the cage, pulled one out, and threw it against the wall.  That’s not what I meant, dad.
