Need to weld qty (2) 1/4" plates together bottom plate is 1/4" thick 14% Maganese dim approximate 6" wide by 12" long.
Top plate is A36 1/4" thk a little smaller dimensionally than the 14% maganese plate.
The top plate A36 has qty (4) 1/2" wide x 4" long slots which we need to lay down two 3/16" fillets 4" long (on each side bothe sides of slot)-  plug and/or slot weld symbol. Weld not to exceed above surface.
Drawing call out is 309L SS oe equivlant. We are getting some cold cracking at finish crater even wiith backfilling at end of weld bead.

Any suggestions? Thanks as always.

I had a similar project awhile back and I believe we went with Lincore 55 wire. But I'm sure there are many guys here that could give you a definitive answer.

AWS A5.13 has the specifications for Mn steel Surfacing electrodes, might be able to use one of them. EFeMn-A, B, or C, depending on exact base metal chemistry.
