SPE Staff Person,
Greatly appreciate the efforts of you and other pertaining to my weld@spemail.org account. Speaking to you Friday after reading your email was helpful. Got welding inspection work with 8 - 10 hours days in cold of last two weeks. Brain frozen condition impacted situation! Monday have 10 Am meeting New York area and will try to call and interact to make Internet / email system work for petroleum people!    My email account with the Society of Petroleum Engineers and others compromised for years. Snow happening in about 3 hours and doing trip home of 2 hours. Look forward to speaking to you again.
Sincerely
Len Andersen   SPE 20 years   len@speamil.org

Hello Mr. Andersen,

Based on the options I provided, is this something you can setup on a computer? I can also arrange for you to speak with our IT staff to get this setup if you'd like.

Please let me know.

Hello Mr. Andersen,

We apologize for any issues and inconveniences you have experienced with your SPE email account.  We understand how frustrating this has been and we sincerely apologize.  We have done everything possible to troubleshoot, identify and solve any issues reported to us; however we were unsuccessful to completely resolve the problem.  We currently have 3 isolated, unrelated issues amongst our members using spemail. Our other users have not been affected.  We do have a partial resolution to offer.  I apologize now for the lengthy email,  but wanted to provide you with as much information as possible.

Should the information I am providing below be more technical that what you are familiar with, we will provide you with one of our IT staff members to walk you through step by step to help you set this up.  We will be happy to call you, or alternatively, you can call us and we will transfer you to our IT staff person.  If you are more technical and familiar with this terminology, I have provided further details below:

In testing and trying to resolve these issues we have found that if you access through an IMAP (Internet Mail Access Protocol) which allows a "client" email program to access a message stored at a remote location as if they were on the local computer,  you will be able to access your spemail account.  SPEMail is propriety system made by a company called OpenWave Messaging.  If you choose to try and move your account to a different provider (yahoo, gmail, etc) you might investigate the vendor YippieMove which can help you to migrate your email to another service more seamlessly/effortlessly.

Exact instructions for setting up IMAP will vary depending on what system you have.  You will want add a new account and choose IMAP as the protocol:
For Incoming Mail Server enter name www.spemail.org - Enter Username and Password For Outgoing Mail Server enter name www.spemail.org - Leave Username and Password blank

The import feature follows the same format as above. It will depend on what IMAP client you use.  If you use Outlook as the IMAP client it has an import feature that is different,  if you are using Mozilla Thunderbird as an IMAP client, which also has an import feature, it also will be slightly different.  Mozilla Thunderbird is a free service you can find more details here https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/thunderbird-faq

SPE is no longer offering the  spemail service to new participants.  We have not posted or offered the spemail service to members in the past 12-15 months and removed any promotion of the option from our website as well as direct links from our benefits pages.  The software we use for this service is out of date, no longer supported and there are no current plans to upgrade to a new service due to the fact that there are so many free email services available worldwide which can offer more features and technical support.  While this is in the early stage and we have NOT disabled services to current spemail users,  for those who run into any problems, we are encouraging them transition their accounts to another account when they can.  This service was originally initiated many years ago when free email services were not as readily accessible.

We again apologize for any inconveniences and will provide a staff member to help you to set up the IMAP as noted above.  Just let us know if you want us to give you a call (provide your phone number, date and a good time to reach you) or you can call us at 1.800.456.6863 (US/Canada toll free) or 972.952.9393.

Sincerely,
