Having all sorts of fun at work, Gotta love how stainless steels like to move around....
I need to get better at predicting and controlling where and how the parts are going to move.
A quick google search resulted in quite a few books with price tags in the $100-$200 range... While I'd love to get all of them the budget will not allow for this. The budget will allow for 1 maybe 2 books in this range at the moment.
Anyone have any suggestions for books to get first? Do any stand out far above the others?
Thanks

Distortion Control,  by John P. Stewart

That was one of the first books I looked at
Might end up with his flame straightening book too...

So... I found his flame straightening book easy enough...
Distortion control seems to be a rarity however.
And Mr Stewarts website seems to have issues with trying to place an order...

So.... an update...
Just got my copy of The Procedure Handbook of Arc Welding....:grin::grin::grin: I Really wish I had gotten this book years ago.
Chapter 3 was the one I was looking for.
The can of worms that will be opened tonight for my self was fun...I never knew a weld had a center of gravity...
The can that will be opened tomorrow upon the coworkers will be amazing; I LOVE the look of shock and bewilderment upon full comprehension of the things we know so little about yet work with daily...:twisted::twisted::lol:
Thank you again

I love the "Lincoln Procedure Handbook"

It's the one I keep at arms reach from my desk.

Anybody involved in manufacturing can benefit from my favorite chapter (12)  "Estimating Welding Costs"

Many of the underlying keys to Lean Manufacturing are supported here....  The table for Weight of Weld Metal (volume) for various joint types is a real eye opener for anybody who measures their filler metal in tons.

It's a gold mine.

I too love the "Lincoln Procedure Handbook".
On mine, I colour coded the edge of the pages with Sharpies in orange, red, blue, etc for the different processes.
It is my "Go to, Grab me first" reference book.

Tim,
Another fun video about distortion from the depths of youtube...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0pf-qQDslhU
Jody(the guy in the video) tapes laser pointers to parts so you can see what the weld is doing to the part in real time...
