Kent,
I have used a 309L Flux Core (FCAW) wire from ESAB in the past along with preheat.

Thanks

Inconel what number? What applications are you referring to? Need more details.

Respectfully,
Henry

Henry,
I am thinking the 700 series
maybe 718
gtaw for app
but would like to go gmaw
saves $ and faster
sincerely,
Kent
edit: Lawrence, and Al tell me how wrong I am:wink::eek:
I know Henry will:wink::eek::red:
btw Henry low temp need the 420 for magnetic properties.
also want the corrosion resistance
js has a good point
Richard you made a great point...I have just never been a fan of fcaw

718 seems overkill. 309 is the usual default choice if you don't go with matching filler. Something different can be used depending upon the service intended.

I'm with JS as far as the overkill.

Inco 718 is a precipitation hardenable alloy and I see no need for it here.

But since we have zero idea what the purpose of the work is... No technical answer is coming from me :)

You know the drill Kent:

Joint type
Intended purpose
Material thickness
Process for joining options
Code requirments

Lawrence,
Joint type: fillet
Intended purpose:magnetic electric turbine generator
Material thickness: 1/2 maybe 3/8"
Process for joining options: smaw, gtaw, fcaw, gmaw
Code requirments: none prototype: local building code, but they will be lost:eek::wink:
sincerely,
Kent
btw same project been brainstorming for months now
