Am I the only one that watched it more than once? As it was just as funny the last as it was the first.

Saw that in a pipe mill once when I was just out of welding school.......Was a helper for a welder in the reeler bar mill.... Was a big piercing bar that spun thru a hot solid to make a seamless pipe......Anyway on night turn and the bar gets all jammed up and the bosses are hollering ....."Get it out f*** it , we'll rebuild / replace the bar and drive w/ new parts "..... Welder goes down in trench and starts cutting .......Well you seen the video , you know what happened.....Guy NEVER come back to work, ripped his jaw clean off and back injury on top of that from being thrown around...... Never did care for that job ( welding in a mill setting) ......Wasn't real upset when they closed in 1984 and was able to go into business for myself......

A serious question-------------- If You found Yourself in the situation of having to cut steel, how would You go about it to prevent what the picture is showing? How to tell if the steel is under stress? Likely to move? Answers or opinions wanted.

sometimes it's hard to tell, this was buckling up so there had to be some assumption that it was under stress, usually things just move an inch or two.
We would use a bug-o or similar cart to get the human away from there, or I've heard of people heating the last 0.25" or so with just a rose bud and let it just slowly deform instead of releasing suddenly.

The guy was cutting pretty far back, so it seems like he knew the thing was gonna move, but didn't expect that much.

I love the way it loops. Great with a cocktail. I mean I hope the guy isn't seriously hurt, but it is a hoot to watch.

Wonder if he has a dental plan, or at least Workers' Comp?

In all seriousness, I hope he wasn't hurt too badly.  Just some pride and some bruises.

He Is In Control, Have a Great Day,  Brent

I also hope he wasn't hurt to bad. We learn all our life, but alittle common sense can go along way, and hurts alot less.
