Up Topic Welding Industry / Processes / Braze Paste vs Preform/Flux

Currently I use a preform braze shim with flux for an induction brazing process of joining a carbide insert to 4140 base material. Current process is as follows. Flux the 4140 base material, apply a preform braze shim, flux the preform braze shim, flux the carbide and induction braze.
The braze paste has the flux already mixed in, I'm hoping to be able to apply the braze paste to the 4140 base material, place the carbide on top and induction braze thereby removing a number of steps in the process. I've ordered in a sample of the braze paste to see how this will work.
Anyone else use paste in this application, if so how were the results?
Thanks
Jim

I tried the paste and did not like it. It didn't flow as well, there was a lot more smoke/fume created and the strength of the joint was only 20% of what I have achieved with the preformed shim and flux.
Regards
Jim
