I just passed my CWI exam the first shot and was wondering what are the best ways to get the PDH hours needed for re-certification on the 3 year? Any and all suggestions are appreciated.

You don't NEED any PDH's to re-new for the first 3 year period.  Just your eye exam and money.  Even if you only used it as a welder checking his own welds for the next three years you are using the skills and are still qualified to renew.

Having said that, you want to start accumulating them now.  Because to get through the 9 year takes quite a few.

AWS seminars, conferences, online classes all count and are easy to document.  Other classes such as NDT through NDT College and others count but the level II testing and certification only counts if it is from ASNT not in house.

Sections meetings with Technical presentations count but you will never get enough at 1-2 PDH's per meeting but they will add up to help bump you over the edge if you are close.

Now, look through QC1 and B5.1 and see what they say about hours and experience and what you can do.  Then come and ask about something specific you have in mind but remember, it is only our opinion.  If you really want an answer you need to contact AWS Certifications Dept.
