Hello,
I am interested in acquiring an endorsement.   D17.1 Aerospace Spec. Besides buying the actual code book, does anyone know of preparatory materials or clinics for this particular exam?   As far as I know it's an open book test.  Is it similar to the D1.1 code exam format?

Thanks, T

TimmyD,

The following is from the AWS Website 'Certification' page for Endorsements:

This endorsement covers four subject areas in AWS D17.1, material and design, fabrication, inspection, and qualification. Subject weights for each of these areas are in conformance with the codebook examination requirements as expressed in section 7.1 of AWS B5.1, Specification for the Qualification of Welding Inspectors.

Code Applications

Percent of
Total Questions

Material and Design   10
Fabrication                30
Inspection                25
Qualification             30

So far as I know there are no seminars, classes, or clinics on this code.  Yes it is "similar" to the D1.1 in it's format for an exam.  It would be taken at the same time and in the same location as the exams for D1.1.  Endorsements are available with advanced registration at any AWS test site.  And YES, it is an open book test just like all the code tests.

Took the exam in Pittsburgh. Recently got my endorsement results, Pass! D17.1 is different animal from D1.1 of course. But a great experience. Enjoyed the whole process from studying to exam.
Thanks, Brent

You bought the right  book :)

I'm no longer even serving an advisory role with the D17 committee so I can't speak to practice test questions at all.

I wish I could be more helpful  :(
