Up Topic Welding Industry / General Welding Discussion / AWS D1.5 PQR verses AISC Fracture critical PQR
- - By Rich I Date 10-12-2015 21:17 Edited 10-12-2015 22:27
I need to run PQR's for both our AWS D1.5 and AISC fracture critical certification.
I know that the bridge is good for 5 years while the AISC fracture critical is only good for 3 years.
My question is can I run one PQR that will cover both AWS/AISC for the next 3 years or do I need to run 2 PQR's?
Is there any difference between the 2 except for how long they are good for?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated?

Thanks
Rich

One test assembly, two PQRs, one for D1.5 and the second; AISC.

Al, is there a difference as to what temperature the mechanical tests are done at? On  the 2 PQR's that were done by our previous QA manager one was done at 0 degrees and the other was at -20 degrees.

I don't have the standards available right now. I would suggest looking at the standards to see what temperatures are required. Some standards like D1.1 and ASME Section IX the test temperature is based on the service requirements. It is the Engineer's responsibility to establish the required test temperature.

Al thanks for your help.
I will dig deeper into the D1.5 code and AISC specification to see if they mention it anywhere. But as of yet I have seen no mention of a temperature.
Found something is section 12 of D1.5
