I need to know the formula to calculate the weld area of a flared-bevel and flared-V groove weld. This would need to take into consideration of different flared radii and weld throat dimensions.

Can anyone help?

What exactly do you mean by "weld area"?. Are you looking for effective throat thickness of the weld? Total area of a cross section of the weld?

Total area of cross section of weld to calculate volume for cost estimation.

Dan,
start with this link
http://www.esabna.com/euweb/awtc/lesson9_1.htm
see what else I can dig up
PS  very poor design on this joint

Thanks for the help. I can find nothing on the web. I've used this ESAB link in the past.

I have all the formulas for all other weld type of cross sections (fillet, V, J, U etc.), just not the flared ones. The spreadsheet I created is based on the area to calculate everything else. Just hoping there was some uber CWS on here that already had this formula!

PS-This is not a design i use. Just a quick sketch I created to give example of what deviations the calculation should account for.
