Hello Gentlemen!

It is time for me to upgrade my computer and software. I purchased my first copy of AutoCAD directly from Autodesk. At the time they didn't have any dealers on the East coast. They actually offered me the dealership East of the Mississippi, but being a welder, I didn't think I had the background to fill that roll. I've been using AutoCAD for many years, but my old version (AutoCAD 2000) will not work with a new 64 bit operating system. That being the case I have to update my AutoCAD, but I don't know whether to consider going to Autodesk Inventor or stay with AutoCAD. I am hoping some of you have experience with the two and have some recommendations to offer.

Best regards - Al

Al,

Running the old R-14 version I had to find a 'patch' and now all is well.
The patch was 'free-ware' or similar.

Cheers,
jb

Al

will ask the teacher and some of the smarter ones in class what they think
have a price limit?
autodesk has a suite that has both autoCAD and inventor
matter a fact, they have a couple interesting suites
for design and engineering:eek::red::surprised:
thought I would never admit engineering is interesting:red::eek::roll::surprised:
will let you know what I hear
sincerely,
Kent

Do you have any idea of what the student prices are?

Like I said, it might be worthwhile to enroll just for the discount.

Al, we've had the autocad or inventor conversation in our shop as we use both. We just think they do different things. To get a fabricated tank with piping out of the shop as a bread and butter job we'll use autocad 2D. For new ideas and conveying concepts to people who aren't all that print savvy, we've used inventor to great effect.

Inventor is 3-D modeling - If you go with this I would recommend going to a junior college to learn. Stick with AutoCAD or the LT version. Not sure what you goals are...
Plus cost for the 3D is $$$.
We use Solidworks more user friendly than inventor.

Thanks
