I have to do a d1.1 PQR from 1020 to A572gr 50 and from 1026 to A572gr 50. My question is, what material can i use in tubing form in place of  A572gr 50 plate to preform this test?

I have a question for you.

What are you going to use for the yield strength and tensile strength of the AISI 1020 and 1026? There are no mechanical properties assigned to AISI materials for the simple reason that AISI does not specify the method of manufacture. The material can supplied as hot rolled, cold rolled, forged, etc. All the AISI number tells you is the chemistry. Without knowing the method of manufacturing and the final heat treat condition, it is near impossible to assign the material mechanical properties. That being the case, how do you know if the weld is meeting the minimum requirements?

There is a reason why the D1.x structural welding codes, ASME, and military welding standards do not include AISI materials.

Best regards - Al

Thank you AL for your comments. I am starting to understand and my approach will be to find comparable Mechanical s, Tensile and Yield in pipe form. Hopefully I will be able to get the Engineer to agree.
