Dear Experts,
How to define the extent of MT, PT, UT in ASME VIII??

The Code has some requirements based on the vessel contents (lethal service) or based on thickness for RT.  In some cases MT or PT are required by the Code.  Most RT or UT is based on the design engineering.

Dear expert,
I would like to know the Code or somewhat that designer will base on to determine whether certain product need to do NDT and extend of each NDT method? Particularly, in ASME VIII there are requirements to apply of RT but how about MT, PT?
Best regard,

Paragraph UHA has requirements for PT when welds exceed 3/4" Thick.  Paragraph UW has requirements for MT or PT when repairs are made to materials.

Dear Mr Don56,
Thank you for your good information but it's still not enough to cover all cases. UHA paragraph can only be applied to High Alloy steel. I'm looking forward to more information about this issue.

I agree it does not cover all cases.  If you need to cover all cases, I suggest you read the book(s).
