Can someone help me interpret the below info;

In QW-404.23 it states, A change from one of the following filler
metal product forms to another:
(a) bare (solid) or metal cored
(b) flux cored
(c) flux coated solid or metal cored
(d) powder

Kindly correct me if I am wrong. My interpretation on above subject QW, if the welder/s is qualified under sction IX using solid wire he can qualified to weld using flux coated wire Without violation on the code.

Thank.

Basically, ASME differentiates between different welding processes such as FCAW and GMAW by the type of electrode used, i.e., solid vs. tubular.

If a welder is qualified to weld by using solid wire he is also qualified to weld using metal cored.

If he qualified with solid wire he is NOT qualified to weld with flux coated  solid wire nor flux coated metal cored wire.
