anybody know what this means.
its in the tail of a symbol and i think it means bottom radius excluded.
your thoughts please.

BTM radius excluded.

I checked AWS A3.0M and did not find anything...

If you don't get an answer here, I would go back to the Engineer and ask him/her to elaborate.

A sketch would help.

Look at AWS A2.4 for information on welding symbols.

its just a simple fillet weld symbol with BTM RADIUS EXCLUDED in the tail.

That isn't much to go on. I'd ask the designer for clarification.

Hey Noel,

I just googled "BTM radius" and discovered the following:  In the whole of the intergalactic internets that term is not to be found in a sentence!

Your only hope is to go back to that cat who detailed that symbol and demand he/she speaks proper welding terminology.

There is nothing Engineers and Detailers enjoy more than a welder or his lead making spurious demands :)

WELCOME TO THE AWS WELDING FORUM!!

A problem I have with your question and no sketch or picture is that the words 'flare' and 'simple fillet weld' don't go together, in most circumstances that come to mind. 

A pic of the welding symbol and of the joint, either actual steel or just from the drawing, would really be great.
