How do I calculate the amount of welding wire I need for a specific weld

Calculate the area of the weld in square inches.
Multiply that by the weight of the material you're working with (i.e. - steel weighs.283 lbs per cubic inch)
Divide the total by the weight of an inch of the filler metal you intend to use.
