Can anyone assist with a Flare Bevel Weld question?

Is the intent of Table 2.1 in D1.1 (2004) to provide an effective weld size for flare bevel welds for a filled flush weld?  My question is what would be the effective size of a flare bevel weld not filled flush.  Would it be (5/16)R minus the unfilled portion?  Is this method for determining the effective size equivalent to measuring the actual penetration by sectioning a sample?  Is the effective size of a flare bevel weld a function of the radius?  In other words, is (E) per A2.4 the effective size?

Clause 2, look for the clause on the subject of flare grooves. They address what you are looking for.

Why are you looking at the 2004 edition? It's 12 years out of date. Not that I recommend using the latest edition of the New Farm Code, but the 2010 edition is definitely worth following.

Yes, But why are you posting under ASME if you are asking a question about an AWS structural code?
