D1.1\D1.1M:2015

Table 4.2 - WPS Qualification - CJP Groove Welds: Number and Type of Test Specimens and Range of Thickness and Diameter Qualified

Table 4.11 - Welder and Welding Operator Qualification - Number and Types of Specimens and Range of Thickness and Diameter Qualified

The above tables lists no diameters - only thicknesses - so I am confused as to how these tables qualify any pipe\tubing diameters.

* * * * *

The only way I could see diameters being qualified is if somehow pipe\tubing diameters are somehow directly correlated with thickness.

Alternatively, if pipe\tubing is manufactured & specified by both OD and ID (I don't know anything about pipe\tubing).

Either that or the diameter infos have been moved somewhere to Clause 9 and tables 4.2 and 4.11 shouldn't indicate qualified diameters.

Table 4.1 WPS qualifiation -production welding positions qualified by plate ,pipe, and box tube tests, see note b " Qualifies for circumferential welds in pipes equeal to or greater than 24 in [600mm]  nominal outer diameter."
Table 4.10 Welder and welding operator qualification-production welding positions qualified by plate, see note c "Only qualified for pipein pipes equeal to or greater than 24 in [600mm]  in diameter with backing ,backgouging, or both"

Tables 4.1 and 4.10 are qualified positions and have nothing to do with tables 4.2 and 4.11.

Tables 4.2 and 4.11 do not include pipe diameters less than 24 inches (table 4.1 and 4.10) in diameter. One must refer to clause 9 for tubulars. Table 9.10 and 9.14 include the information you are looking for.

Keep in mind that the diameters are actual diameters, not nominal diameters when the pipe is 10 inches or less in diameter if I remember correctly. The point being, actual OD is different than nominal diameters.
