GMAW on Aluminum...  They do not seem to every try and improve.  Cant really understand how one can lay welds like this knowing its going to be inspected and still keep moving forward...

Ya know,  Looking at the terminations and the toes;  The actual GMAW parameters may have been pretty close.  To me It appears that access may have been restricted or the operator a bit shaky.

The black smoke (smut) can be pretty common, especially with 5356 filler and GMAW.  A little attention with a wire brush post weld might have made things look a whole lot better.

Spatter ~ Short Circuit GMAW versus Spray Transfer; ? Black Soot ~ Drag Gun Travel Angle versus Push?

Well it's only a casket right?  The intended occupant/new owner isn't too likely to complain.  Unless of course they turned out to be a CWI and then can you imagine what his eternity would be like?

He'll have a long time to stare at those welds......

Little more wire speed ought to fix that right, yeah, that's the ticket.

Cool!
Where do they work and how much will they pay me to do it right?
Parent - By mcostello (**) Date 06-07-2016 02:17
I don't think they pay anybody to do it right. I am the humblest and most inexperienced of anyone here. I am a wannabe rod burner's rodburner. I could get it to look better than that, just by caring what I do.

Looks like arc blow, which I don't recall being a problem with aluminum? It would be fun to hack these photos onto a Fronius website ad, but if I had those skills I'd be on my yacht right now.

I see the remnants of people getting paid to do bad welds all the time, case and point attached.....

That's the worst I've ever seen. I don't even know what I'm looking at.
