V-Groove Weld with Backer Bar

Recently while working on a project I discovered what appears to be a misprint or change that occurred. This is in relation to Single V-groove weld with backer bar weld angle (B-U2a-GF)

Root Opening 3/8 1/4
AWS 1.1 2008 30 45
AWS 14.1 2005 45 30
AWS 14.1 1997 30 45

I was wondering if there was any information or explanation on what the change that occurred?

First, you quoted from two totally different codes that have stresses that are different in application and also in the welding procedures to best expect successful completion.

Second, All other things being equal, are you looking at the angle for the same process? Different welding processes have different angles, openings, etc.

What I am looking at is whether this angle is correct in the specification. AWS 1.1 2008 and AWS 14.1 1997 for the weld details the welds are all identical but the AWs 14.1 2005 the only difference is this particular angle of this weld and based on the fact the formatting for this weld is different then all the other welds in the section it appears that there was in error and 2 numbers were flopped and I was hoping this had already been brought to the attention of AWS and an official response made but it appears that is not the case.

There are a significant number of typos in all of the AWS publications - especially in the 1st printings\releases.

HOWEVER, you are comparing D1.1 with D14.1 - a code (D1.1) with a specification (D14.1) ! That could account for the difference...

D14.1 is NOT a code, it is defined by AWS as a specification.

So far I have submitted 23 errors and typos - since the release of the March 2016 Errata - in D1.1 2015 1st printing to AWS...

There will be a large errata release for D1.1 2015 sometime in the coming months.
