Up Topic Welding Industry / General Welding Discussion / AWS D. 1.1 Point 4.10.1.1 Corner or T Joint

Good morning to all
i have a query regarding the point (4.10.1.1 Corner or T Joint). I have understood that with CPJ cover T Joint but when the depth exceeding 25mm what happends?
Is neccesary a dedicated PQR in T Joint configuration?

Thank
Marcello

Clause 4 only addresses how to qualify WPSs and welders, tack welders, and welding operators.

Based on your question, I'm not sure what you are asking.

Hi Al

thank you very much for your answer, i try to explain my question:
Regarding the qualification of PQR the AWS quote:

4.10.1.1 Corner or T-Joints. Test specimens for
groove welds in corner or T-joints shall be butt joints
having the same groove configuration as the corner or
T-joint to be used on construction, except the depth of
groove need not exceed 1 in [25 mm].

What's happend if the thk of my weld is more of 25mm? To cover the joint is neccesary to make a butt weld CJP + T-joint? What's your interpretation?

It isn't a concern.

Non-tubular connections: They are simply saying that a T- or corner joint of unlimited thickness is qualified using a CJP grooved butt joint assembly. If you look at table 4.2 you will see that a CJP grooved plate assembly qualifies the WPS for unlimited thickness. The same holds true if the production joint is PJP (Table 4.3).

Thank you Al,

i was in confusion for this sentence  (except the depth of groove need not exceed 1 in [25 mm]) but now is all clear.
