Hey everyone long time since I have been on.  I have been super busy teaching and working.

I have here a very large weld analysis job I just wrapped up.  I ended up sampling over 150 welds, each weld 2 sides, a photo for each side and writing 150 reports so my mind is slightly lost. The good news is I couldn't have ended up with better example photos from doing all this.  I organized them from GTAW and GMAW.  There is A LOT of lack of root fusion, excessive penetration, under bead cracking, large cracks, fine cracks, suck back and they are all in great detail so I hope you all enjoy! ALL ALUMINUM! let me know what you think!

Nice photos Jordan.

What welding standard was being used for the actual welding and would you consider "donating" some of them to my subcommittee  on visual inspection of welds?

Best regards - Al

Of course anything for you Al.  These were to D8.14 2000, and D8.8 94.

Application - Automotive

Aluminum - Almost a metal, endurance limit, there is none, it will fail if cyclically load.

Automobiles - subject to cyclic loads - welded aluminum components will fail sooner rather than later.

Just a few thoughts that flashed through my mind.

My thoughts exactly.  I was just there to do the research.
