For a weld coupon for a Welding Operator (Robot operator), do they just use an existing program and push the "start" button to get their completed coupon?
Just an example, we can make a groove weld program in any position and tweak it so its perfect and then save it in the system. We have five robot weld operators that usually just load an existing program, add the fixture, and go to town. Can they just load that perfect groove program, slap the material down, and that is their test? One person steps up to the machine and runs the coupons, the next person comes up and runs theirs, then the next person, and so on?
This really doesn't verify any type of skill as compared to a SAW operator that has to adjust the wire guide.
Right now I am looking at ASME Section IX.
Good question. We have non-welders running our weld robots in a manufacturing enviorment, once there setup and quality and/or myself does a first pc inspection. The robort operator essentially loads and unloads parts off of fixtures. The welder who does the programming is a certified welder. Will definitely pickup this book.
