Dear Friends ,

Code : AWS D1.1.

I have WPS/PQR for BS EN 10025 - S275JR to S275JR( E7018 H4R for SMAW and E71T-1C for Fcaw). My doubt  is that whether we can use the same WPS/PQR for welding S275JO to S275JO or need to re qualify again .(Unlisted steel)

2) If not possible, Kindly suggest me the welding electrode and FCAW coil with gas shielding suitable for welding

a)BS EN 10025 -  S275J0 to S275 J0
b) BS EN 10025 - S355 J0 to S355J0 (same scenario as above)

Regards,

JP

S275J0 is equivalent to ASTM A578 Gr 70 and is different to *JR steel in charpy test temperature. S355J0 is equivalent to ASTM 441 steel and again has Longitudinal Charpy V-notch impacts 27J at 0°C.

1. No need to requalifiy if using the same electrode class / group designation

2.  a)  Group F2 or F4
     b)  Group F4

As for qualification, I'm pretty sure you need requalification, as AWS and ASME are pretty strict when it comes to unlisted steels. They require you to perform welding in the exact grade of material that was qualified.

As for filler metals for these steels. The ones used on the PQR you have qualified are good, or you could go with a E70C-6 metalcored wire for higher productivity. Here in Europe it's frequent to use this wire even with S355J2 (27 J at -20ºC Charpy V-notch test)

Since it was mentioned the applicable welding code is D1.1, the PQR is only valid for the combination of unlisted base metals recorded by the PQR. Any change to a different base metal requires requalification.
