Up Topic Welding Industry / Inspection & Qualification / Base Material Thickness and CJP vs PJP Qualification

I have a question regarding the base material thickness versus filler metal deposited thickness or perhaps its a CJP versus PJP question. We have a WPS that has a maximum base material thickness allowed of 1.5". The PQR used a .75" thick plate with a CJP V-groove.

We now have a welding project that involves a 4.5" thick section welded to a 2.0" thick section section, corner joint configuration. The joint on one side will be a 1.5" V-groove, the other side of the joint will be a .625" single bevel with a reinforcing fillet.

So the question is does the WPS cover us for the 1.5" V-groove (filler metal deposited) based on AWS D1.1? Or do we need to do a supplemental PQR to cover up to the 4.5" material thickness? Would the WPS listed above with the .75" thick plate, CJP V-groove, qualify since the project involves a PJP groove weld, AWS D1.1 section 4.21.1?

Thanks

Unlike ASME Section IX, AWS D1.1 is based on the thickness of the plate, not the thickness of the weld deposit.
