Up Topic Welding Industry / Inspection & Qualification / Plate to Pipe Lap Joint
- - By TonyF Date 10-19-2017 14:19
Hello,

I am new to the O&G industry and have been tasked with readying test coupons to send to a third party for testing. A common joint we weld is a plate to pipe fillet lap joint and we would like to get welders and robotic welders qualified for this type of joint.

Would a structural 1G weld cover this joint type?

Any help would be appreciated.

Pipe to plate lap joint? I'm having difficulty visualizing it. Can you provide a sketch?

Maybe you mean tee or corner joint?
Or plate deformed to pipe surface radius?

Essentially a tee. The pipe protrudes through the plate and there is a fillet weld on both sides. The pipe is a micro alloy that only comes in seamless tubing so I am thinking we will have to make the same fillet weld and send it in for macro etching to only qualify that particular weld between those two materials.

Yes you can, but there is a limit on welding position.

You may refer to QW-461.9.
