The Client gave me a requst to perform 20% MPI and lamscan on a 1.75” plate and I Beam .
They told me to use AWS/ASTM on lamscan and aws on MPI

QUESTION:
Does AWS D1.1 Covers MPI on Base metal?

Step 1:
Buy a copy of the applicable code

Step 2
Open the book

Step 3
Read the book, its easy. Look in the index.

Now that I got your attention and there's a little steam escaping from under your cap; The MT is used to tests the cut surfaces for evidence of laminations. The UT can be used to detect the size of the laminations, i.e., the area affected by the lamination.

I have the copies of the codes .
Im researching the codes right now .

I just want to know if the acceptance criteria of the codes also cover the base metal .

Clause 5 addresses the evaluation of "mill induced" defects which includes laminations.
