hello:
Has anyone out there welded P9 to P22 ?what post weld  heat treatment (PWHT) have you used?  what happen if i choose wrong parameters for heat treatment??

So, your welding a nickel alloyed steel pipe to aluminum. Interesting. Explosive welded, friction welded?

Looking at the P-numbers listed in ASME Section IX:

P9 - steel alloyed with nickel additions, example SA-203 grade A, B, D, E, and F
P22 - aluminum alloy, example SB-210, Alloy 5052

You have me so confused! What specifications include these P9 and P22 base metals you speak of?

These alloys, while similar, are noted for their differences and the need to carefully control the PWHT. What works for one does not necessarily provide the optimum response for the others.

The design engineer should be providing the specifics of the PWHT he wants the fabricator to employ.
