If memory serves me, the AISI 11XX series is free machining steel. The weldabily; it sucks. It will crack about 99.9% of the time right down the center of the weld bead.
A quick check of the material indicates the steel is resulfurized and has 3 to 4 times the recommended quantity needed to ensure ease of welding. This material is a very poor choice if the joining method is fusion welding. The sulfur is a low melting point constituent that is a bad actor under the best of conditions.
