AWS A3.0: Standard Welding Terms and Definitions

Crater - A depression in the weld face at the termination of a weld bead.

Just for a point of interest.

The point that is circled may or may not have a "crater" or concave depression, there are certainly methods and techniques to avoid them.

The end of every weld is the "termination" whether it has a crater or not.

However  AWS A3.0 does not list the word "termination" as a standard definition.

Even though it uses the word "termination" when describing "crater"

Fun with words.
