Hey guys under the Base metal thickness, under T1 where it says 1/4" max, is this telling me that this joint can not be used with 5/16" material?  The reason is we are getting ready to make CJP welds on 5/16" A36 steel. The weld symbol on the drawing is a square groove joint to be welded on both sides. The engineer has changed this to a CJP. To be welded with stick and I am trying to make sure we get it right.

Thanks for any help,

See BU2, B-U3b, in particular but there are others also.

Bottom line, yes, the joint you have designated is limited to 1/4" max thickness.

The work around is to qualify the joint as per Clause 4.
