GMAW-P
0.45"
Carbon Steel

Trying different gasses, can't lay down a good bead.

No wire manufacturer list recommended parameters for overhead. Anyone successfully done this?

I have a WPS qualified for .045 GMAW-P for an 8mm single pass overhead fillet.
Done with Miller Axcess equipment and Accu-Pulse waveform.
Achieving acceptable Bead profile is tricky, settings, technique, travel speed variables are pretty narrow, so it takes an Operator who knows what they're doing. Otherwise, re-work will be an issue.
Using 90/10 gas and ER70S-6 (Lincoln L56).

Wait a minute Tim,

In the title he says 307??  Isn't that a stainless electrode?  Not sure why they are welding with 307 overhead on carbon steel.

Need a full classification of the electrode and more info.  This would really be even more difficult with SS electrode.

Tim,
I used the Axcess with Accu-pulse.

I agree with 70S it was tricky, but with 307 it's not looking good.

Thanks Al,
It doesn't quite hit the mark.
No pulse settings on the chart, but did use the short circuit and spray parameters.
Next will be trying a tri-mix.

307 is a bear.

Austenitic stainless has a depressed melting point, so the total heat input can be slightly lower than would be used for carbon steel.

A lot of manufacturers use SG-HeAC-7.5/2.5 with reasonable success.

Thanks Al,
I have that tri-mix in storage.  Time to see what it can do.
