Hi guys, i have question regarding using E309-15. Our structural welders are qualified to D1.1 3/4" max. The situation has came up where we have to weld some 304 stainless to A36. As stainless is not covered under D1.1 we will have to qualify the welders again am I correct? The thickness of both base metals is 3/8". We are still looking for a WPS. Any advice appreciated.

It might be a good idea to requalify your welders to your new WPS's

But take a look at AWS D1.6  2017  Clause 6.13.5

6.13.5 Base Metal. Qualification established using any of the base metals listed in 1.4.1 or any of the metals listed in
AWS D1.1/D1.1M Groups I & II shall be considered as qualification to weld any base metals permitted in this code.
The base metal specified on a WPS used for welder or welding operator performance qualification may be substituted in
accordance with this requirement.

Some people like this... Some people think it's a bit too lax.

You are at liberty to test your welders of course :)

Can I use Mother oven as baking oven?

Please give me an appropriate answer.

If the contract specifies AWS D1.1/D1.1M, you would be hard pressed to justify using D1.6 without the Engineer's blessing.

@Kannan,

Since a baking oven according to D1.1 Clause 5 must reach 500-800°F and some of Mother Ovens ovens will do so, Yes, you should be able to use them for baking.  They also make some that would work as 'holding' ovens.
