Up Topic Welding Industry / General Welding Discussion / What rate should I charge for myself and my welding rig truc

Hey I'm wanting to become a 1099 employee for a local contractor. I already make good money so I don't want to take a step back. I have a very nice rig truck with a welding machine on it and several pieces of equipment. Plus I have a lot of experience doing layout Pike work and blueprints. But above all else I am a x-ray /phaser ray position welder. TIG stick and Mig. Not to toot my horn but I've got a pretty good hand. I'm thinking I need to charge around $75 an hour for myself in my truck. I will have to provide my own insurance and I will not have health insurance through the company either. I work in the Atlanta area . All information would be appreciated.

"I am a x-ray /phaser ray position welder." - quote

Sounds impressive, but what is a x-ray / phaser ray position welder?

I would take a hard look at what it would cost you to do the job and then add a percentage on top that you want for a salary.

Tungstentalent,
Don't take the light hearted ribbing to seriously. Proper terminology is a big thing.

We call it phantom ray or phaser gay... or witchcraft.

Anyway, guys up here don't move their welding rigs while operating for less than around $120/hr. Not sure what people charge down in America.
